Location

Sakaleshpur is located over a mountain surrounded by river Hemavathi. It is land of mystic serenity, enchanting vistas, lovely mountain passes and slopes. It provides ample opportunities for nature lovers and the adjoining areas also have immense scope for leisure pursuits. Sakaleshpur is in Hassan District which was under the region of Mouryas and later under the Kingdoms of Kadambas, Chalukyas, Gangas, Hoysalas and Vijayanagar Empire.

ACCESS

Sakaleshpur is easily accessible from all comers of the country. The nearest airports are Bangalore (225 Kms)and Mangalore (130 Kms). Sakaleshpur is well connected by road from all the major cities in Karnataka and is also connected by rail and it is 38 Kms from Hassan, the District Head Quarters towards Mangalore.

The region surrounding by boasts several tourist attractions within Hassan District starting from Manjarabad Fort to Belur and Halebid, the options are numerous.

Built by 'Tippu Sultan' in 1752 AD, Manjarabad Fort is situated about 6.4 Kms from Sakleshpur town, at the height of about 3,240 ft. above the sea level

BISLE FOREST & GAME SANCTUARY

The “Bisle Gudda” or “Sunny Mountain” is a scenic picnic spot as well as a trekker’s dream-route. The mountain ranges are typical of western ghats of India.

The local forest authorities have built observation decks which is suitable for bird watching. The spot has also attracted famed photographers of the educational TV channels such as Louis Patrick.

JENKAL GUDDA

The Jenukal Gudda (Honey-stone Mountain) is the second highest Peak in Karnataka. The place is known as “Hodachalli”.

The place is very calm and lush green surrounded by thick jungle and coffee estates and is truly a great trekking place.

From the top of Jenukal Gudda on a clear day, one can see the coast of Arabian Sea in Mangalore.

AGNI GUDDA

The “Agni Gudda” or Parvat as you would have guessed by now means “Fiery Mountain” for legendry volcanic activities in this region.

This location has been an all-time favorite with the youths from Bangalore for trekking, and outdoor camping. The mountain provides a great view of the surrounding rice terraces and a good spot for picnicking and outdoor camping.

This spot also has been recorded on various South Indian and Bollywood movies.
